Children of Light Standing Firm in Our Darkening Culture

Ephesians 5:8-11 shares 3 things we can do to stand firm in our declining culture.

In 6 Ways to Engage Culture, I shared the instructions in Philippians 2:12-16 that can help us cope effectively with our declining culture.

Ephesians 5:8-11 is another passage that gives us wisdom for standing firm in our darkening culture:

1. When we’re saved, we become children of light, no longer under the control of worldly pursuits but under the control of God’s Word and Spirit.

“For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth).”

2. Because we love Jesus, we genuinely want to please Him.

“Find out what pleases the Lord.”

See also John 14:21

3. Because we want to stand firm in God's truth, we unashamedly share His loving commands and refuse to compromise.

“Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.”

When we genuinely give our lives to the Lord, we cannot help but reject darkness and stand firmly in the light.
