Christians are being mocked and criticized by people who were once members of our churches and Bible studies (1 John 2:19).(1)
And the book of Jude aptly describes our situation. These people are rejecting God's righteous and loving commands, especially commands about sexual behavior, basing their values on “mere natural instincts” (Jude 1:19).
They “have taken the way of Cain,” a man who murdered his brother “because his own actions were evil and his brother’s were righteous” (Jude 1:11; 1 John 3:12).
Using false accusations, hatred, and mockery, these people are “murdering” people they once considered their brothers and sisters in Christ (1 John 3:15; Jude 1:16).
How can we respond? We must keep ourselves in the center of God's love by building ourselves up in the Holy Spirit and obeying His Word (Jude 1:20-21; Philippians 1:27-28; 1 Timothy 6:12; James 1:22).
And we must “contend for the faith,” offering sound doctrine and mercy to those deceived by these false teachers, but rejecting even the slightest compromise or error in our own lives (Jude 1:3; Jude 1:22-23).
Aren't you grateful that we serve a God who is able to keep us from stumbling (Jude 1:24)?
