Psalm 150 is only six sentences long, but it contains 13 commands to praise God for his power and surpassing greatness.
We can praise Him with words, musical instruments, singing, dancing, and even with our thoughts. And the only qualification for praising Him is that we have breath!
"Let everything that has breath praise the LORD." Psalm 150:6
Giving thanks is extremely important, but praise takes it a step further. It's not simply thanking God for something He's done. It's thanking God for who He is!
Psalm 100:4 says praise draws us right into the inner courts of God’s presence: “Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise.”
And we can go one step further than Old Testament saints. They could enter the courts of God’s temple, but only the priests could go into the Holy of Holies and speak directly to the Lord.
But Christians are priests (1 Peter 2:9), and “we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus” (Hebrews 10:19).
So if you’ve got breath in your lungs, praise God daily for that privilege!
