Concise Commands Series from 1 Thessalonians 5:14-22
In reading through 1 Thessalonians 5, I was struck by its “concise command passages”—short, to the point, and powerful.
For example:
1 Thessalonians 5:14: "We urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone."
We’re commanded to deal biblically with ourselves and fellow believers using a guidebook that is “God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
1. Warn the idle - 2 Thessalonians 3:10.
“Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise!” Proverbs 6:6(1)
2. Warn the disruptive - 2 Timothy 2:23-26.
“Warn a divisive person once, and then warn them a second time. After that, have nothing to do with them.” Titus 3:10
3. Encourage the disheartened - 2 Corinthians 1:3-4.
“Mourn with those who mourn.” Romans 12:15
4. Help the physically weak and the morally weak.
“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves…save others by snatching them from the fire” Proverbs 31:8, Jude 1:23
And in all situations "be patient, bearing with one another in love" (Ephesians 4:2).
Do you need to apply some of these verses to your life? Do you need to share them with a Christian friend?
