Don't Be Jealous of Other People's Gifts

Jealousy is a dead-end street that keeps us from developing our God-given gifts. This 1-minute devotion explains, highlighting the story of Tabitha.

Jealousy is a cruel demon. It's especially sad when it happens within the body of Christ and causes us to envy another person's blessings or skills.

“Anger is cruel and fury overwhelming, but who can stand before jealousy?” Proverbs 27:4

God gives each Christian gifts, strengths, and opportunities. When we envy others, we doubt God’s wisdom, minimize our own gifts, and long to be someone we aren’t meant to be.

I love the stories in Scripture of humble, behind-the-scene Christians who did their best and pleased God in their own area of gifting.

Tabitha is one of my favorites—the woman who changed her world by sewing clothes for widows. How easily she could have hidden her light under her sewing basket, thinking it was somehow inferior (Matthew 5:14-16). Her funeral and resurrection certainly shed light on her impact on people and her value to God! Read her incredible story in Acts 9:36-42.

Dear Christians, let’s concentrate on our own gifts and ask God to use them fully for His purposes (Ephesians 2:10).
