On the Alert

A military "alert" is a good analogy for this important Christian concept. #BibleLoveNotes #Bibled #Devotions

From 1979 to 1982, my husband was a U.S. tank commander with a position on the German border, then part of the Iron Curtain.

Sometimes our phone would ring in the middle of the night, and a stern voice would recite two code words followed by: “This is an alert. This line is not secure.”

Immediately my husband would jump out of bed, get dressed, and head on post.

These alerts weren’t games. They were wise preparation.

There was an armed enemy at our border, and at a moment’s notice my husband’s company might be called to protect us from attack. They needed to be ready.

Did you know that you have an enemy armed with lies, temptations, and tricks sitting at the “border” of your mind and heart?

His goal is to catch you off guard and undermine your faith. And he’s more interested in harming Christians than the rest of the world because we are in the "Lord’s army" seeking to do the Lord’s work, something the enemy hates.

Are you staying on the alert?

I encourage you to ponder these verses:

1 Corinthians 16:13: "Be on the alert. Stand firm in the faith. Be men of courage. Be strong."

1 Peter 5:8: "Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour."

Acts 20:30-31: "Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them. So be on your guard!"
