Crossway Christian publisher surveyed 6000 readers and found that people who don't read their Bibles give these reasons:
1. They lack time.
2. They lack motivation and discipline.
3. They feel intimidated by Bible study.
4. They struggle to apply Scripture to everyday life.
Number 2 is the most important problem because it affects the other three:
1. We make time for those things we consider important.
3. We feel intimidated by things we haven’t studied.
4. We can’t apply what we’ve never learned.
The survey found that people who regularly read their Bibles:
1. Better understand God.
2. Are more successful in overcoming their sins.
3. Are better equipped to help others.
No wonder they are reading the Bible!
We can’t be changed by Scripture unless we are reading it and studying it.
We need to “taste and see that the Lord is good” (Psalm 34:8).
If you’re not reading your Bible regularly, try this: don’t eat your breakfast until you’ve read at least 5 verses. This simple discipline might motivate you to dig deeper and the results will be life-changing.
Why not start with these 5 verses:
Psalm 119:103
1 Peter 3:2-3
2 Timothy 3:16-17
