Why Being "Crushed" Is a Good Thing

Do you know how much genuine repentance pleases God?

 David knew:
"My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise." Psalm 51:17

"Contrite" means "crushed." 

Being contrite means being crushed by the understanding of our sin, brokenhearted over what we've done against God and our fellow man. 

True repentance is never halfhearted. Those who truly repent seek forgiveness humbly, gratefully, wholeheartedly. 

They ask for it. They don’t demand it. They repent of specifics without excusing or blame-shifting. 

And God draws close to those who are truly contrite:
"I live in a high and holy place, but also with the one who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite." 
Isaiah 57:15

Imagine that: Only those who are contrite know close fellowship with the Lord.

I want to be contrite about my sins. Do you?
