Spiritual Hearing Aids

Last year my husband got hearing aids and we learned some important facts about hearing loss:

1. We hear with our brains, not our ears.(1)

2. Hearing loss is often a factor in developing dementia.(2)

I thought about the multiple places in Scripture where Jesus says “Whoever has ears, let them hear.”(3)

When we come to the Lord, we gain “ears.” These ears are sort of like “spiritual hearing aids” that help us hear God’s voice and renew our minds (because we hear with our brains).

Our hearing aids include prayer, Bible study, obedience, and godly fellowship.

If we quit using our hearing aids, we hear God’s voice less and less clearly.

People who repeatedly reject God’s Spirit develop spiritual dementia. This is characterized by illogical arguments against faith in Jesus and sometimes rude rantings against God’s people.

But God’s hearing aids are better than earthly hearing aids. They can even reverse spiritual dementia if the patient is willing.
