I recently watched an old video clip where Oprah explained how she quit believing in the Christian God when she heard Deuteronomy 6:15: "the LORD your God in your midst is a jealous God."
She said she couldn't believe in a god who was jealous of her.
I admit that when I first heard God was jealous, I wanted an explanation, but I never thought He was jealous of me.
But it's not surprising in our self-esteem culture for people to think more of themselves than they should.
"If anyone thinks they are something when they are not, they deceive themselves." Galatians 6:3
When we're deceived about our importance, we become deceived about God's importance too. We inflate our worth and deflate God's.
It's incredible that the God of the Universe is jealous for our love and loyalty because we don't deserve His love. We receive it only by His grace.
