An atheist wrote a comment on one of my devotions saying, "I'm glad my only hope is not in God."
She went on to say she only trusted things she could see and/or fully understand.
That means she can only believe in a god who is limited to her wisdom, knowledge, and capabilities. He cannot be smarter or wiser or more capable than she is, and he must be visible to her.
So, basically she wants a human god, not a supernatural, infinitely wise God.
Christians have a very different belief. We've met the true and living God. Our finite minds can understand all God wants us to know. For example, we know His love for us is sacrificial and absolutely awesome. But Scripture says we can never fully comprehend its depth and breadth and height (Ephesians 3:17-19). Nor can we completely comprehend any aspect of our perfect God. He's that much greater than we are.

I find comfort in that.
In my opinion, only a fool would want a god her size. And only a fool would reject the true God:
"The fool says in his heart, 'There is no God.'" Psalm 14:1
