Words, Words, Words

Our lives contain massive amounts of words! This 1-minute devotion shares an important Scriptural warning about them. #BibleLoveNotes #Bible

The Library of Congress in Washington, DC, contains so many shelves of books that it would take you almost 8 hours at 70 mph to drive from the first to the last shelf if they were put in a straight line! (No bathroom stops included.) That’s 28 million books on 532 miles of shelving!

The largest bookstore in the world, Barnes and Noble in New York City, has 12 miles of shelves.

Some books on those shelves were written by Brazilian author Ryoki Inoue, the most prolific writer in the world. He published 1,058 novels between 1986 and 1996, a new novel every 84 hours!

Words fill our lives…we speak about 120 a minute, read about 250 a minute, and think about 1300 a minute

And words are extremely important. God says our words reflect our heart and we “will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word” we speak (Matthew 12:35-37).

Today let's take time to make sure our words and thoughts and reading materials please the Lord (Psalm 19:14).

    2. Yes that is a lot of books, but get this, Jesus upped the ante by performing so many good works that all the books in the Library of Congress and in the world could not contain them as stated in John 21:25! Praise Jesus!

    3. Psalm 19:14 also reads "May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer!" Awesome huh?

  3. Amazing! My Mom always told us to keep our words sweet. "You never know when you may have to eat them!"

    1. Sometimes our mothers are the best source of wisdom, aren't they? My mom always said, "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all." :)
I actually wrote a devotion about that phrase!

  4. Too often I say too many things and don't realize it until it's too late and I've damaged relationships without meaning to... Father God, please help me reign in my tongue and know when to hold back and wait for Your prompting- I can't do this on my own! :(

  5. Your devotion today parallels the devotion you shared on exegesis and eisegesis. Today has given me a lot of thought as to how to read, speak and write "words". Your devotions are a daily blessing to me. Thank you.
