The nine-foot Goliath was a trash-talker. He had a reputation to match his mouth, but it didn't match God's reputation.
Trash-talk is used today to distract opponents in sports, gaming, and street fights, but Goliath used it to frighten the entire Israeli Army.
Then along came the shepherd-boy David who used the only weapon that could silence the nine-foot giant--faith in God's name.
David said:
“You come to me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord Almighty... the Lord does not need weapons to rescue his people. It is his battle, not ours.” 1 Samuel 17:45-47
Satan is a trash-talker too, telling us God is too small and our problems are too big. But we can fight him with faith in God's name by reciting God's promises until he retreats.
What a blessing to know it's God's battle, not ours!
