While 1 in 5 dies of heart disease and only 1 in 500,000 dies in a tsunami, tsunamis get more attention.
Complex variables like diet, heredity, environment, addictions, and stress cause disease, some of which are under our control. But natural disasters are caused by weather, which we can’t accurately predict, let alone control.
So we feel helpless. And that’s a good thing because it helps us realize we aren’t in control of life. External disasters and blessings happen to the godly and ungodly, rich and poor, famous and obscure, Christian and non-Christian.
God gives no formulas or promises to make everything predictable or controlled.
But He promises something better: “we are more than conquerors through him who loved us…neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, [neither earthquakes or tsunamis]…nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:37-39
