Why I Wore My Mom's Perfume

Have you ever thought about the aroma of Christ that we spread? 2 Corinthians 2:15-16 explains that we have our own kind of perfume. #BibleLoveNotes #Bible #Devotions #MothersDay

I was 40 when my mom died. For a year after her death, I wore her perfume instead of my own. It was a nice reminder.

Sometimes one of my family members would start talking about my mother, and they'd admit that my perfume (her perfume) had triggered sweet thoughts of her.

My mother has been dead for more than 25 years, but when I smell her perfume, I still remember her fondly.

Scripture says Christians also wear a fragrance, the fragrance of Christ.

“For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved ... an aroma that brings life.” 2 Corinthians 2:15-16

I imagine that the more time we spend with the Lord, the more of His fragrance we wear. And the more of His fragrance we wear, the more those around us have sweet thoughts of God.

  2. Hi Gail, wow, such a great post. We are to bring to mind in others by the fragrance of our lives, Jesus Christ! Wow. Makes one think about how we behave. What fragrance are others getting?

  3. I love the way you put this!! Thanks for sharing such a special memory of your mom and how you wore her perfume after she passed away. I will think of perfume as a reminder that I am to be a sweet fragrance of Christ.

  4. My mom is still with me, but I can relate to this post, in that it takes me back to another time.

My mom always wore Estee' Lauder's Youth Dew. If you've ever smelled that perfume, then you know it's very concentrated and strong! I guess that's why it left a lasting impression on me and makes me think of childhood.

It's amazing how smells can take you back.

  6. Beautiful Gail! Beautifully said. I used to use my mom's perfume for a couple of years after she died, 11 years ago.
And yes we should spread that aroma among all around us, not always easy, but we should strive to do it.

Love you and grateful for your wisdom and your generous heart.

  7. Beautiful post! My mom died four years ago after a long illness, and so many things remind me of her. I just posted one of those memories myself for this "on your heart Tuesday." I love that verse about fragrance too. Thanks for sharing.

  8. Oh my goodness. I read this with tears. I so think God brought me to Women Living Well today to read these very words. This has been a year of loss including the loss of my treasure, my mother. I think about her always in these long days since she passed two months ago. I miss her. I use Ponds cold cream because it smells like her. What a beautiful tribute to your mother. And a sweet glimpse at the way I hope to remember my mom when the years have passed. Thank you for sharing.

I hope you'll join my Tuesday Destination: Inspiration linky party.

  10. I wore my mom's pearls to her funeral. I still think of her when I feel their smooth creaminess.

  11. I know this is an old post, however I felt the desire to share a sweet experience of mine. It must have been 15 years ago, my husband and I made a surprise visit to our daughters home and my then 12 year old grand daughter came bursting into the house, as only the youth can do, and out of the mouth of babes shouts "I smell Grammas perfume". It had been several months since we had seen her, but isn't it wonderful the impressions you leave behind without realizing it. Still brings a smile to my face.
