In 1993 we traveled by overnight train between Kiev and Moscow.
Our tour guide gave us explicit instructions about the necessity of locking our sleeping berth. They’d had a number of problems with thieves sending sleeping gas into the ventilation system and then robbing passengers while they slept.
Thieves can be quite devious. But the ultimate thief, the father of all thieves, is Satan.
And just like our tour guide, God gives us explicit instructions for avoiding this thief. In fact, the Bible is full of stories, examples, and commands to help us avoid this wicked being who robs some people of eternal life and others of deeper devotion to God.
“The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give life in all its fullness.” Jesus (John 10:10).
This is another reason we must study God's Word--so we keep our hearts and minds "locked" from the enemy.

You're so right Gail! The enemy is simply a thief and a liar looking to destroy. So grateful for God Himself and his vast array of tools equipped to protect us :) Thanks for the reminder. And that is SO cool that your daughter was a missionary to Russia!

ReplyDeleteSatan desires that we sleep spiritually, in that state he can rob us of God's blessing and also make us less useful to His purposes.
ReplyDeleteSatan desires us to fall asleep spiritually, that way he can steal God's blessing for us.
