Today I'm sharing a devotion straight from my book Wisdom for Life. This is Day 22 out of the 100 daily devotions it includes. I hope it blesses you!
Are You Listening to the Sky?
It whispers snowflakes and hums soft winds. It shouts hailstorms and screams tornadoes. It proclaims sparkling sunshine and puffs white billowing clouds. It sings symphonies of darkness accented with moonbeams and twinkling stars.
Now is a great time to purchase Wisdom for Life because it's on sale at some greatly reduced prices on Amazon, CBD, and Lifeway. Did you know that you can also get it as a Kindle or audio book?
It murmurs, cries, and surprises us in bright blue, crimson red, and orange. It reminds us of man’s sin and God’s mercy with unexpected rainbows. It softly sprinkles refreshment to the dry soil, flashes warnings, and swirls soft melodies.
The heavens declare the glory of God, and the expanse proclaims the work of his hands. Day after day they pour out speech; night after night they communicate knowledge. There is no speech; there are no words; their voice is not heard. Their message has gone out to the whole earth, and their words to the ends of the world. (Ps. 19:1–4)
God’s creation testifies that we serve an omnipotent, omniscient, almighty God. The heavens were no cosmic accident; they were designed to tell us that our God exists and is filled with glory.
For his invisible attributes, that is, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen since the creation of the world, being understood through what he has made. (Rom. 1:20)
The sky also gives us a “measure” of the greatness of our God’s love: “For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his faithful love toward those who fear him”
(Ps. 103:11).
The skies speak of God’s power, goodness, wisdom, love, and salvation. Are you listening?
For Further Thought
Notice how Psalms 8:1; 50:6; and 97:6 echo this truth.
