In two weeks, we'll celebrate Valentine's Day. We don’t know the exact origin of Valentine’s Day, but there are several legends that have a godly background. (See Origin of Valentine's Day.)
But whatever the background, let’s use this day to celebrate the love of God.
If we're married, we can celebrate God's love by celebrating our marriage because marriage between a man and woman is part of God’s wonderful design (Matthew 19:4-6).
But let’s make Valentine’s Day even more than that. Let’s make it a day to celebrate the love of Christ. Here are some suggestions.
1. Memorize a short verse about God’s love and recite it throughout the day. For example:
“Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies” (Psalm 36:5).
“For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him” (Psalm 103:11).
If you have children or grandchildren, encourage them to memorize one of these verses in honor of Christ’s love. For more verse ideas, see Fact: God Loves His Children.
2. Decorate your home with these verses about God’s love.
Be creative and let your home reflect the love of God!
3. Buy a new notebook each February 14th, and use it throughout the year to record the ways God has shown His love to you.
4. Text, email, or write a thank-you letter to people who have shown you God’s love.
