When Christians disagree with each other or with non-Christians, our attitudes and words should reflect grace and godly character (Luke 6:45).
So let's consider these seven aspects of biblical disagreement:
1. Let's express ourselves kindly, calmly, and carefully, treating others as we'd like to be treated (Matthew 7:12).
2. When we leave comments on social media or respond to letters or emails, let's make sure we've read things carefully before answering (Proverbs 18:13).
3. When we disagree, let's stick to the subject and not attack those who hold different views, even if they're wrong (Colossians 4:6).
4. If someone corrects us when we're wrong, let's accept it humbly and graciously (Proverbs 9:8).
5. Let's remember that "judge not" is a phrase that applies to hypocritical judgment, not all judgment (Matthew 7:1-4).
6. Let's make sure our words and thoughts are pleasing to our Lord (Psalm 19:14) because our highest priority should be honoring His Word, not our words.
7. Let's allow other Christians to have different views about non-essential doctrines (Romans 14).
We'll never agree with everybody about everything, but we can learn to disagree in ways that bless relationships instead of damaging them.
