God's View of Homosexuality

The most loving thing we can do is understand what the Bible teaches about homosexuality and stand with God in this highly controversial area. This 1-minute devotion shares what Scripture teaches. #homosexuality #BibleLoveNotes #Bible

Our culture is convinced that homosexuality is an appropriate lifestyle.

But Scripture says otherwise.

Satan wants to ruin lives, and Christians who approve homosexuality join him in that effort. The most hateful thing a Christian can do is condone something that God says damages people's bodies, minds, and spirits.(1)

Let's take a look at Scripture's teaching on homosexuality so we don't fall prey to this serious error.

The most loving thing we can do is understand what the Bible teaches about homosexuality and stand with God in this highly controversial area. This 1-minute devotion shares what Scripture teaches. #homosexuality #BibleLoveNotes #Bible
The Old Testament condemns any sexual relationship outside married, heterosexual partners (Leviticus 18:22-24; Leviticus 20:13).(2)

Sometimes people discount the Old Testament laws because not all were permanent. It's true. Sacrificial and dietary laws were fulfilled in Christ. And some Old Testament laws were specifically for the nation of Israel. But that doesn't negate the Old Testament moral laws.(3)

However, we don't need Old Testament laws to prove homosexuality is a sin. The New Testament also condemns homosexuality (Romans 1:26-27; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11; 1 Timothy 1:8-11; Jude 1:7).

Let's pray for people caught up in this serious sin and stand with Jesus against everything that damages people's souls.
--------------------------------
(1) My devotions address all aspects of faith in Christ. They don't unfairly emphasize homosexuality. But whenever I address homosexuality, I get negative feedback from professing Christians. Usually, they point out that homosexuality is no worse than other sins, which isn't true. See 1 Corinthians 6:18-19 Romans 1:26-27, All Sins are Not the Same, and today's Bite Size Study to clear up that false notion. Sometimes they claim it's unloving to speak against homosexuality, but it is God's Word that speaks against it, and we are commanded to share God's Word. This defensive attitude toward homosexuality shows that culture has succeeded in producing a bias that has compromised many Christians.
(2) There is not space in this 1-minute devotion to address polygamy, but I encourage you to check out today's Bite Size Study for an explanation. The Bite Size Study also addresses the question of whether someone can be born gay.

  1. So... What would you suggest one do if their child, brother, father ect is a homosexual?

    1. Hi Brandi,

We have a homosexual in my family, and the most important thing we've done is pray for her.

And we've also lovingly shared our concerns when we were prompted by the Lord to do so. She doesn't agree with us, but she understands that we are coming from the perspective of our love for her and our desire to have her know the Lord.

  2. But what about condoning heterosexuals living together outside of marriage. I don't hear too many sermons on that issue. I'm not condoning homosexual behavior, but if were going to go on a campaign then let's at least be consistent and teach against all sexual behavior outside of marriage.

    1. Hi Jerry,
If you look in my archives, you’ll find more devotions about heterosexual immorality than about homosexual immorality.

In fact, if you click the link and go to the Bite Size Study you'll see heterosexual sins mentioned and some of the devotions linked.

I’ve never had anyone comment on those studies that I need to be fair and address homosexuality. And when I write about slander or anger no one ever tells me that I need to be fair and address gluttony or pride.

I only get this response when I write about homosexuality, another example of the bias I mention in the (1) footnote.

  3. Something is wrong. Is a Paradox. How love can be a sin?@ the lave between two men's or two women's is the same as man and woman. Don't get me wrong but the Bible is wrong for who translated. Don't forgot that before being on this form the Bible was so many times in history rewritten.

    1. Some people have sex with children and call it love. In fact, there is a movement to make it legal if the children "consent." Some people have affairs despite their vows to remain faithful to their wives, and they call it love. Some people have sex with animals and call it love. Some people sexually torture each other and call it love. Truth is not dependent on the opinions or practices or history of men and women.

God is our designer and He loves us more than we can love each other and He knows what is best for us. He says premarital sex, homosexuality, and transgenderism are unhealthy for our bodies, souls, and spirits.

We can enjoy our definition of love here on earth or we can believe He knows what's best for us and enjoy eternity with Him in paradise.

Man's truth changes like the wind. God's truth stands firm forever and Love is written all over it....genuine love.

And whoever told you the Bible is mistranslated doesn't know what they are talking about. The Dead Sea Scrolls discovered in the 1940's supplied us with ancient manuscripts that confirm the Bible's accuracy.

  5. I am Gay or I should say lived a Gay lifestyle from a very young age ... I had a dream a few years ago that Jesus was crying tears of Blood and that dream changed my life... to me loving someone of the same sex is not bad but it is the act of sodomy and lust that makes it such a grave sin .I am 45 yrs old now and I can give this advice to any Gay person out there please please refrain from sexual acts because if you are a Christian you cannot imagine how much this hurts not only our souls but Jesus. Keep believing in what you preach Gail

  6. Some people are born gay. They have r great personalities and characters. They cannot change who they are. No one has a right to judge anyone. That is why the world see some Christians as hypocrites. We should love one another. Irregardless whom we are.

    1. Dear unknown,
One thing you say is correct: Gay people can have great personalities and be gifted people.

But that doesn't change the fact that God says homosexuality damages a person's soul.

The real hypocrites in Christianity are those who refuse to warn people of sins like homosexuality. They have no love for homosexuals or they would want to keep them from taking a path that leads to hell.

Furthermore, if you genuinely think that we have no right to judge anyone, then you are a hypocrite yourself because you have judged Christians who share God's truth about homosexuality, calling them "hypocrites."

In my experience, the most harsh and judgemental people are those who claim we have no right to judge anyone. Scripture makes no such claim. In fact, Scripture tells us to judge sin and warn sinners.

  7. Thank you for taking such a firm stand. So many people have a distorted understanding of love and judgment. You express well what the Bible actually says from a truly godly perspective. Keep up the good work!

  9. "Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God."
    (I Corinthians 6:9‭-‬10, NKJV)

"You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination."(Leviticus 18:22,NKJV)

As a born-again Christian, I believe the Word of God in its entirety. To suggest that some people were created gay is to say that God is the author of confusion and He is not (1 Corinthians 14:33). The LGBT community have pushed (and are still pushing) for the legalisation of homosexuality and they are quite aggressive about their abominable lifestyle. Even from a purely logical and commonsense point of view, homosexuality is unjustifiable. People who engage in abominable behaviour are not in love with each other but they pursue lustful desires.
Two individuals of the same sex cannot produce children. Our response as Christians should be love (and not compromise) towards gay people because God is love. However, we should note that God's love is not human love - it is pure and holy. Defending homosexuality is to stand for something that God is against and that is sin, short and simple. Thank you, Gail for standing on God's Word. May God strengthen you and bless you as you proclaim the unadulterated Word of God.

  10. People are not born gay. God made male and fenale.
WE ARE ALL BORN WITH "SIN NATURE", but not born gay. Yes! We are to love one another, and this means warning, pointing out, not judging the person, but the sin. We also need to look at our delivery, how we address the sin and the manner in which we speak.

Gail, thank you for your knowledge, wisdom and clarity on this subject, which is to some, very sensitive.

  11. I think some people can be born as homosexuals in exactly in the same way as people can be born with physical or mental defects such as hemophiliacs, downs syndrome, or any number of other ailments, however this does not mean that people should simply give into these or any other ailments to their detriment. If I am a diabetic should I not seek treatment? Other people are led astray by the popular LGBT propaganda that being gay is OK and they may see it as desirable. I don't care which it is, both/either path(s) to these behaviors are simply wrong.

My largest complaint today about the current state of LGBT types and our social institutions (like some churches) is push to legitimize homosexual behavior to the extent that even some "Christian" denominations have not only allowed practicing homosexuals to attend services, which is good in my mind, but some churches go way too far by allowing practicing gay priests and bishops as well as practicing gay Sunday school teachers. This is totally unacceptable in my mind! These people standing in authority at church is saying with a very loud voice that being gay is acceptable to Christ when it truly is not, at least I can't imagine that it is. This is the reason I quit the Episcopal church when they approved of practicing gay priests and bishops, this was unacceptable to me. There are far too many churches/denominations and other institutions doing similar things allowing any practicing sinner to stand and teach our young people and adults as authorities, good examples, and honorable people that "it's all OK" when it is not.

    1. Hi Unknown,
Much or what you've said is right.

My main difference is your comparison of homosexuality with physical diseases. I believe it is a spiritual disease so I would say that some people may be born with an attraction to homosexuality just as some people are born with an attraction to gluttony, adultery, gossip, etc.

But, just as people are not born gossips, people are not born homosexuals.
