The Gospel is Not a Buffet

This 1-minute devotion explains why we can't treat God's Word like a "buffet." Are you eating the whole Gospel? #BibleLoveNotes #Bible

You can pick and choose exactly what you want at all-you-can-eat buffets.

Sadly, a growing number of Christians treat the Gospel this way, customizing it to their preferences. They leave out the hard parts and focus on the easy parts. But a plate full of desserts without vitamins, minerals, and protein isn’t a balanced meal and it’s not a balanced Gospel.

Scripture tells us to “taste and see that the Lord is good” (Psalm 34:8) because God’s Word is “sweeter than honey” (Psalm 119:103). We start our faith diet by craving the pure milk of the Gospel (1 Peter 2:2). But we can’t stay milk-fed babies. We need to move on to Christian maturity (1 Corinthians 3:2).

Love for Christ compels us to eat the solid food of self-denial and obedience (Luke 9:23-24).

The Gospel is a balanced meal, all we need to sustain our faith (Matthew 4:4). It’s not a buffet line. We partake of the full gospel, not simply the dessert.

  1. Thank you for this teaching and correction. I understand that Hell is real. That is the main reason I pray for the conviction and salvation of my family and friends who coast along on karma and a scientific sort of after life.
Lord if they will not listen to me or if they can not see You in me....show me how to reach them. If I am not able then send workers in there path whom they will listen too. Their lives are too special to be deceived.Save them Lord. SAVE THEM!
    AMEN.
