We use the word "reality" in some unrealistic ways.
For example, "reality shows" have become incredibly popular, but they aren't actually realistic. They're scripted and filmed.
Then there are "virtual reality" games that help people lose touch with reality.
The atheist prides himself on reality, thinking it consists only of what he can smell, taste, touch, hear, and see.
We Christians also believe in what we can experience here on earth, but we know that the most important realities are things we can't yet see.
Our "faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see" (Hebrews 11:1).
Sometimes we get caught up in the "reality show" of this present life and begin focusing on the wrong things. We get overwhelmed with hardships and challenges and overly committed to empty worldly pursuits (2 Corinthians 4:16-18; 1 John 2:15-17).
That's when we need a "reality check" so we can start thinking eternally, and we get the reality check by focusing on God's purposes through regular prayer and Bible study (Philippians 4:6; 2 Timothy 3:16-17).
