Detours and Delays

Sometimes I think God is on my timetable. But He’s not. And God's timing is based on His unlimited knowledge.

When Israel left Egypt, “God did not lead them on the road that runs through Philistine territory, even though that was the shortest way…God said, ‘If the people are faced with a battle, they might change their minds and return to Egypt’” (Exodus 13:17).

God didn’t take them on the direct route because they weren’t ready. They weren’t strong enough for the battles on that route.

God often does the same with us.

Are you wondering (and wandering) why your path is long and indirect? Does it seem like you're wasting your time?

If you’ve been obedient to Christ, I encourage you to keep walking and hold onto God’s hand more tightly. He has good reasons for His detours and delays.

  3. Wow, great reminder and (not a surprise) at the best needed time! My husband and I are facing lots of uncertainties with jobs, housing, etc. so this is a good reminder. Thank you!

  4. I,too, needed this, Gail! Been in limbo for about(moving to a new house)3 years now. Sometimes that gets draining.(I can't imagine not having a home for 40 years!) I know that God has a plan, but sometimes I just wish I knew the plan, too. Trusting in the unknown is the hardest. Thanks for sharing this!!

  5. I guess in some ways this entire life is one long detour, isn't it? I have a goal of a heavenly home, but there are (apparently) many things yet to do along the way...

    Thanks for sharing!

  6. I'm thankful for the many times in Scirpture we are told of how the Lord took them by another route. Reminded He knows what He is doing and sees the whole picture. Thanks for writing and linking up. You're posts are always great!

  8. Detours, boy have I had them in abundance?! but now I am in a position to appreciate them and see them for what they are, God's redirecting my life. So many times I've been so sure of the way to then find myself in a radically unexpected detour only to figure out later that it was all part of God's perfect plan for me. Thanks for the post. Have a blessed day!
