Everyone is born with a conscience, and that inborn conscience recognizes God as Creator:
“The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” Romans 1:18-20
Why then, do so many believe in evolution? Because the inborn conscience can be developed with biblical truth or corrupted with worldly values.

Romans 2:13-15 explains that unsaved people “do by nature things required by the law” proving “the
requirements of the law are written on their hearts.”
When we genuinely follow Christ, we reinforce our inborn conscience with biblical truth, and the Holy Spirit warns us of unhealthy, soul-damaging things like sex outside of marriage, abortion, LGBTQ lifestyles, gluttony, lying, deception, stealing, dishonoring parents, murder, etc.
However, the unsaved person easily loses their conscience, accepting worldly values.
Christians can do this as well if they aren’t committed to God's truth. If they accept worldly values, they “grieve the Holy Spirit” (Ephesians 4:30). If this continues, they eventually “sear” (burn, desensitize) their conscience (1 Timothy 4:1-2).
Our conscience is a wonderful gift from God, helping us understand and obey His loving commands. Let’s continually strengthen it in God’s Word.
Half-truth teachings damage our conscience and distort our understanding of God and His Word.
