The Cost of Selfishness - Philippians 2:3-4

The Cost of Selfishness - Philippians 2:2-3
Selfishness is ruining our culture. God's Word offers a solution...

Motherhood is in decline in America, with one in five couples choosing to be childless.

Authorities predict this trend will present enormous problems as the retired population increasingly outnumbers the work force.

Studies also show that most adults admit they wouldn't take in their aging parents if they needed their help.

Not everyone who chooses to be childless is selfish, nor is everyone who refuses to take in a parent.

But selfishness is such a strong part of American culture that I'm not sure we're able to recognize it anymore.

It's causing enormous problems for our society as a whole and for each of us as individuals.

But Christ calls us to something beyond ourselves:

"Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others." Philippians 2:3-4

And Christ helps us accomplish anything He asks of us.

  1. Yeah, it's a sad commentary on where we are at. Parenting is so hard. But I think society only sees the drawbacks and can't recognize the blessings.

  3. Yes. Well said! It's so sad how many are choosing to remain childless...essentially rejecting God's blessing on their lives. :(

  4. One of my favorite verses. I see this a lot with many Christian friends. They only want 1 or 2 children and although that is fine, it is also a reflection of their parenting style and personality. Thanks for sharing at Mom's Library!
