No Shades of Grey--It's Black and White

Dirty books, Psalm 101:3, 50 Shades of Grey
An Englishwoman I met in Croatia told me she was shocked when she downloaded Fifty Shades of Grey to her Kindle. Her friend recommended it, but she found it profane.

Imagine my surprise when I heard how popular it was, even among Christian women.

Sometimes we modern-day Christians see things in shades of gray when they are actually black and white, and this “mommy-porn” is one example.

No shades of gray here: We should not be entertaining ourselves with anything that glorifies immorality. It doesn’t enhance your relationship with God or your husband, no matter what anyone tells you.*

We mock God’s design when we enjoy books or movies that glorify illicit sex in any form, but especially when associated with bondage.

It’s black and white: Women who sow to please their sinful nature, will reap destruction (Galatians 6:7,8). This movie will damage your soul, whether you realize it or not.

LA Times, Academy of Women's health
May we glory in godly womanhood, in clean sexual pleasure in the context of love and marriage, as God designed it.

Psalm 101:3 (read nothing vile)
1 Corinthians 6:12-20 (flee sexual immorality)
Hebrews 13:4 (the marriage bed should be kept pure)
Matthew 5:27 (lustful thoughts are sinful)
Philippians 4:8 (think on things that are pure and praiseworthy)

  2. Never heard of this book, but it saddens me to think that it is so popular. I also grieve when I see Christian's not even flinching in watching movies that contain immorality, immodesty & profane language. We are being rocked to sleep by Satan. Thanks for your boldness, Gail! Continue to speak out against sin and to encourage us to stay out of the gray area! It is getting harder & harder these days.

  3. I had heard about this book and I am shocked to hear that Christian women are reading it. We need to pray for our Christian sisters because the Devil is very cunning. Thanks for sharing!

  4. Just reading the description of this book made me feel sick at heart. How in the world can any believer think that this subject matter is in any way pleasing to the Lord?

  6. Although I have heard of this book, I have not investigated it and am so glad that you have raised awareness among Christians about it.

The verse "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge" came to mind as I was reading your post.

I think it speaks volumes about our culture that what is immediately recognized as profane in another culture is so readily accepted in ours.

I pray that God continues to bless you, your family, your blog and your ministry!

  7. I have been reading so many posts about this, and I am so glad I am! I am glad that the blogging community is taking a strong stand against this book! I, too, am shocked that Christian women are reading this sort of thing. Oh be careful little eyes what you see and read!

  8. How very true Gail! One of the young women at work (a non Christian) said she downloaded it on Kindle and she was not amused... she said it is badly written and a load of filth. She did read it through to the end however. Someone else said that it has put images in their mind which they cannot shake off and she doesn't think about her husband when spending times in privacy!!!! This is adultery plain and simple! People need to be warned!

  9. Can I get an Amen!? Thank you so much for speaking up about this book that seems to be misleading so many. I hope that others realize the truth and guard the beauty of their relationships with their husbands the way God intended.

  10. Gail...You know, I had not even heard of this book until today! Yes, I've read three blogs today that have mentioned it. What you say is right on! It is a frightening thought that it has made such an impact in the Christian world. Thank you for the scriptural reminder to be careful what we sow.

  15. This is excellent and I completely agree with you - not just in books but movies as well. I was surprised how many women wanted to go see the recent porn star movie Magic Mike... Then they wonder why they are having trouble in their marriages... Excellent post! I'll be sharing this if you don't mind :)

    2. I doubt if reading a book or seeing Magic Mike will cause everyone to have trouble in their marriages. Or they all ready have troubles in there marriage which has nothing to do with a book or movie

    3. You can doubt it, but studies show that pornography destroys healthy marriages. And even if studies didn't prove it, God's Words says it's harmful, and God knows more about everything than we do.
