My husband and I married in 1970, and 55 years later, he’s still my best friend. I love his personality and trust his wisdom, and I owe it all to that time after we were married when I Fell in Love with Another Man.
Michael also fell in love with this Man named Jesus, and He revolutionized our lives and our marriage.
Here are two major things Christ taught us:
1. Forgiveness
Marriages often sour because spouses refuse to let go of past problems. My husband and I try to obey Ephesians 4:26-27:
“In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.
When we have an argument, we talk it through, trying to understand the other's point of view. We forgive each other, and we don’t keep lists of past sins.
2. Priority
God gave us marriage for many wonderful reasons, providing a physical, emotional, and spiritual closeness not found in any other human relationship (Genesis 2:24; Matthew 19:4-6; Ephesians 5:31-33).
My prayer for you on my anniversary is that you would let God bless your marriage and other relationships with these and other biblical principles.
