6 Ways to Engage Culture Without Becoming Contaminated By It

This 1-minute devotion explains how we can engage our culture without compromising our Christian values.

“We have to know how to engage the culture without becoming contaminated by it.” Erwin Lutzer

Philippians 2:12-16 tells us how to grow spiritually and stand firm despite the immorality, unbelief, and evil influences in our culture:

1. We seek godliness deliberately and seriously.

“Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling…”

See also: Ephesians 4:22-24.

2. We yield to God as He changes us from the inside out.

“...for it is God who works in you to will and to act...

See also: Romans 6:19.

3. We focus on God's purposes, not our own.

...in order to fulfill his good purpose.

See also: Ephesians 2:10.

4. We deny ourselves.

Do everything without grumbling or arguing..”

See also: Mark 8:34.

5. We transform our hearts and our behavior by refusing to conform to culture!

“...so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.”

See also: Romans 8:12-13.

6. We shine brightly, holding firmly to God’s Word and offering it to our lost world.

Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life.

See also: Matthew 5:16.

Let's seek, yield, focus, deny, transform, and shine, dear Christians!
