Years ago, a young woman in a Bible study told me I was old-fashioned to think that genuine believers wouldn’t live together before marriage.
If I’m old-fashioned, so is God.
God always knows what’s best for us, and Scripture defines all sex outside of marriage as sinful.
What happens when genuine Christians sin sexually?
They'll be deeply troubled by what they've done and do their best never to repeat it. They'll prove their repentance by getting help from more mature Christians and avoiding all situations that cause further temptation.(1)
“No one who continues to sin has either seen [Christ] or known him.” 1 John 3:6
"Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God." 1 Corinthians 6:9-11
God says sexual sin is serious.
He forgives the repentant (Acts 3:19).
-----------------
(1) Christians have the power (Philippians 4:13) and the motivation (Romans 12:1; 1 Corinthians 6:19-20) to overcome these sins because "God has called us to live holy lives, not impure lives" (1 Thessalonians 4:7).

I definition of sodomy includes oral sex. Why is that not included in teachings and most sermons ?
ReplyDeleteHi Dee Dee,
DeleteThe word sodomy is an English word that does not appear in Scripture, and the definition assigned to it is based on our language, not the original Greek or Hebrew. The name Sodom (city) and Sodomites (people living in the city) are the words found in Scripture.
The English definition of sodomy does include oral sex as you describe, and I think oral sex is involved in homosexuality, but you would have difficulty making a case that Scripture specifically forbids it.
I am neither approving or disapproving of it, but simply saying that your arguments against it would need to be based on something other than Scripture.
This is how I understand it from my limited study. I haven't studied it in depth.
