Simple, Profound, True

Simple enough for a child to understand, profound enough for a theologian. This 1-minute devotion explains the story behind one of the most popular Christian songs of all time. #JesusLovesMe #BibleLoveNotes #Bible

 In the 1800s Anna Warner wrote a poem that her sister Susan included in one of her popular Christian novels. William Bradbury discovered the poem, added a refrain, and put it to music. 

The first two lines of the poem are perhaps the most well known of any Christian hymn: 

Jesus loves me! This I know, 
For the Bible tells me so. 

In some ways, they summarize all of Christian theology, pointing first to the redemptive love of our Savior and secondly to the importance of God's Word as the source of truth about Him.
Easy enough for a child to understand, accurate enough for a theologian. 

May I never forget this profound, magnificent, wonderful truth: 

Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so!

    Thank you, too, for reminding us of that simple truth. Jesus does love us, and we can know it because His trustworthy word, the Bible, tells us so.

    This is a powerful old song as a child singing it. You knew yes Jesus loves me. This will always be true for the rest of our lives. Amen

    I'm 62 years old. I have sang this song since a child. I still sing this song and it can still move me to tears for its beautiful, simple truth
