In the 1800s Anna Warner wrote a poem that her sister Susan included in one of her popular Christian novels. William Bradbury discovered the poem, added a refrain, and put it to music.
The first two lines of the poem are perhaps the most well known of any Christian hymn:
Jesus loves me! This I know,
For the Bible tells me so.
In some ways, they summarize all of Christian theology, pointing first to the redemptive love of our Savior and secondly to the importance of God's Word as the source of truth about Him.
Easy enough for a child to understand, accurate enough for a theologian.
May I never forget this profound, magnificent, wonderful truth:
Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so!
"God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not die but have eternal life." John 3:16💙💙💙💙

ReplyDeleteThank you, too, for reminding us of that simple truth. Jesus does love us, and we can know it because His trustworthy word, the Bible, tells us so.
Thanks, Joanie. I pray that my Bible Love Notes will continue to bless you.
