When we share the gospel, we can explain it in our own words, sharing how we came to Christ and how He has worked in our lives.
But there comes a time when it’s important to give Scriptural proof presenting God's way of salvation.
One popular way to do this is with “the Roman Road”:
1. No one is good enough to go to heaven.
Romans 3:23: "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
2. We deserve death.
Romans 6:23: "The wages of sin is death. . . ."
3. But God loved us, and He sent Jesus to pay for our sins on the cross.
Romans 5:8: "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
4. We receive this great gift of salvation by making a genuine, heart-felt profession of faith.
Romans 10:9-10: "If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved."
5. This offer is available to everyone.
Romans 10:13: "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."
Obviously, the Roman Road doesn't include every passage a new Christian needs to understand, but it's a good foundation. And you can easily number and highlight the passages directly in the book of Romans.

You're so right, we've watered down Christianity. I'm really sad to see our culture go in this direction.
ReplyDeleteYes, the church is on a slippery slope in its quest to be relevent to the world instead of a light to the world. Sometimes I feel very alone in this conviction but reading things like this bolsters my courage.

ReplyDeleteWonderful! Sharing God's word with the world is so important, and it can be so easy to let worldly thinking subtly slip into our own. These passages are good reminders of what the truth really is.
