▻“I'm sorry I got angry, but I’m a passionate person.”
▻“I’m sorry I’m late, but I'm a laid-back kind of person.”
▻“I'm sorry I offended you. You’ll just have to get used to my sense of humor.”
▻“I'm sorry if my bluntness hurt your feelings, but that’s the way I was raised.”
Have you ever heard fake-apologies like these? Have you ever given them?
These "apologies" are excuses that keep us clothed in our old sin nature (Ephesians 4:22-24).
But Christ-followers are called to be serious about “working out” our salvation (Philippians 2:12).(1)
“We have an obligation” to live according to God’s Spirit and renew our minds so that we’re “able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will” (Romans 8:12; Romans 12:2).
So let's quit excusing our sins and start doing something about them.
See No Regrets and How to Say I'm Sorry.

Let these Scriptures inspire you today:
2 Corinthians 5:17: "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come."
Psalm 51:10: "Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me."
Ephesians 4:22-24: "You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness."
(1) Philippians 2:12: "Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling."
This is not the same as working to gain salvation. Salvation is a free gift. This is our response to the free gift of salvation, a way we show our love for Christ. Christ said, "If you love me, you will keep my commandments" (John 14:15).

DeleteI pray that you continue to seek God's will in repenting honestly and humbly without excuse.
The fact that you recognize this problem is the most important step in overcoming it.

Hi Gail
ReplyDeleteThank you for this..... I am a Christian, work in progress. I am too bluntly, i I've a life of either black or white without having a room for a grey area. I always speak my mind , I get to hurt people's feelings in the process. I get to tell that my intentions was not to hurt but I always find myself saying but that's who I am am, one must get used to it. This reveal to me how out of line I am
I'm blessed to hear that the Lord spoke to you through this devotion. And I've said a prayer for you that you will let him transform your heart and mind. That's my prayer for all of us!
DeleteGod bless you
