3 Suggestions for Sharing the Gospel Naturally

Sharing Christ need not be weird or pushy. This 1-minute devotion offers 4 natural ways to share Christ. #BibleLoveNotes #Bible

Many people never witness because they think they have to make a forced presentation, sharing the entire gospel in one conversation.*

But here are some ways we can share naturally:

1. Don't be ashamed to talk about Christ (Colossians 4:6)

Share what God is doing in your life, how He's helping with your problems, how He has answered your prayers.

2. Be different and people may ask your secret (1 Peter 3:13-16).

▻Smile, be positive, and don’t complain (Philippians 2:14-16).
▻Make sure your speech is clean and helpful (Ephesians 4:29).
▻Show a genuine interest in others (Philippians 2:3-4).
Be honest and courteous (Colossians 3:9-10; Galatians 5:22-23).

3. Pray for others (1 Timothy 2:1).

When a co-worker, neighbor, or friend explains a problem, offer to pray for them.

And always let the Holy Spirit guide you (John 16:13)!
-----------------------
*There are times we should share the whole gospel, but we need to let the Holy Spirit guide us. Typically, we play different roles in leading someone to the Lord. One person may plant some seeds, another may water those seeds, and another may enjoy the harvest of bringing the person to the Lord (1 Corinthians 3:5-9).

  1. Wise words! I think that our actions are our biggest testimony. And the small conversations about life in Christ can yield a beautiful harvest...

    1. Amen. And it keeps us on our toes spiritually because living the Gospel is always more difficult than simply talking about it.

  2. People have always stopped cursing around me even before I say anything about the Lord. This was well written and both instructional and a good reminder. It is easy to get discouraged especially during the winter when it is cold enough that no one is outside walking. We can't see our neighbor's houses.

    1. It's funny, Judith. We used to witness to a lady when we lived in Budapest, and she loved talking to us. She used profanity all the time, but always said "pardon me" when she was around us. :)

  3. Excellent tips Gail. What's funny is our church has a ministry where we just ask people "If you died today would you go to heaven?" Those who are interested stick around and generally listen to and accept the Gospel. Those who aren't just walk away. We've literally seen thousands saved this way.

It's trickier with people that you're around and work with every day. But I often wonder what would happen if we all just started asking that simple question what would happen.

    1. That's an interesting thought, KM.I agree that it can be trickier with people who we work/live with. But what a blessing to see so many accept Christ using such a simple, straight-forward question.

  5. I don't always feel comfortable sharing my faith, and I know the Holy Spirit is nudging me to do so. Thanks for sharing these tips. More important than the actual sharing is the lifestyle that mirrors Christlikeness. I can share Christ until I'm blue in the face, but if I don't live like I've been transformed, then I'm not being a good witness.

  9. I read on some other web site that we are not supposed to 'share' the gospel, we are supposed to proclaim it with authority. The article said that the disciples did not 'share', they proclaimed with authority. My answer to that is that the disciples had the gift of evangelism, which most of us do not. Any thoughts? Did Philip share the gospel with the Ethiopian or did he proclaim it with authority, or both?

    1. Hi Kellifonia,

Perhaps the person who taught that we must proclaim the Gospel with authority was simply saying that we should be confident in the truth of the Gospel, and I agree with that.

But, if they were claiming that there is only one way to transmit the Gospel, they aren’t getting their teaching from Scripture.

      For example:

1 Peter 3:15 says, "Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect."

The Greek word apologia used in this means to give “a verbal defense” when asked a question. We get our word apologetics from it.

1 Thessalonians 2:8 says, “we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well."

The Greek word metadidómi used in this verse means to share or impart or bestow and it’s used specifically for the Gospel in this verse.

John 13:35 says people will know we are Christians by our love, so we obviously transmit the Gospel through our actions.

If we carefully studied Scripture, I imagine we could come up with a plethora of ways that the Gospel was shared. And in real life we would find many ways as well: kind acts, books and tracts, prayers, overheard conversations, etc.

    2. Thank you for your response. I got the impression from the article that I read that we should all stand in a public space and make speeches, that unbelievers are not interested in the gospel so you have to basically force them to hear it (my words). There can be a time and place for that, but I don't think it is everyone, everywhere, all the time. There are many believers mentioned in Bible and there is no mention of them preaching like that. Like you said, there are many ways to spread the gospel.
