It’s easy to take the Lord for granted even when we love Him deeply. So today, let’s take some time to thoughtfully ponder these truths:
No greater love
“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” ~ John 15:13
Our Shepherd and our Savior
“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” ~ John 10:11
Our only hope for life, given before we even understood
“You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” ~ Romans 5:6-8
Laying down our lives
“This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.” ~ 1 John 3:16
While there are times people have actually given their physical life for another person, most often laying down our life for others means sacrificing selfish plans for God’s purposes (Ephesians 2:10; Philippians 2:3-4).
Let’s ask God how can we show sacrificial love this week.
“Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” ~ Ephesians 5:1-2
