"How can you trust the Bible when it was written by men?"
Answer:
The Bible was written by over forty writers from different backgrounds and time periods, in three different languages.
They wrote prose, poetry, prayer, historical narrative, doctrine, prophecy, etc., and covered complex and controversial subjects.
Yet—incredibly—their words have unity and agreement. No other literature provides anything close to this kind of consistency with such a variety of backgrounds and authors.
This is proof that these human authors weren't writing their opinions but writing what God inspired them to write.
"Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things. For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit." ~ 2 Peter 1:20-21
2 Timothy 3:16 calls all Scripture "God-breathed," a term meaning completely inspired by God. And Peter calls Paul's letters "Scripture" (2 Peter 3:16).
In addition, "there is more evidence for the Bible’s authenticity than for any literature of antiquity" (source).
These
things, plus the way God has preserved the Bible for thousands of
years, give Christians complete confidence that it's not merely the
words of men.

you have questions about Old Testament laws and want to understand why
some of them are not applicable to New Testament Christians, see Christ's Complete Fulfillment of the Law.
I need to read and reread this post, over and over again!
ReplyDeleteI have people in my life who are very combative, when it comes to the bible and Christianity.
Sometimes I just smile and listen. It would be nice to have words, that go with my feelings.
It's challenging to know how to answer, Christine. I get quite a few combative comments on Pinterest and it can be hard. May God help us both : )
