Prayer is Part of Our Lifetime Process of Renewal

Sometimes I don't know what to pray. I can't see the big picture, so I do my best and depend on God's Spirit within me. But that doesn't mean I always pray for the right things.

All Christians are “in process.” As Paul explained:

“Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”  Philippians 3:12-14

As we renew our minds in God's truth, we better understand every aspect of our faith, including prayer (Romans 12:2). 

I'm grateful that “the LORD searches every heart and understands every desire and every thought” like a Father with his small children (1 Chronicles 28:9). 

He understands our weaknesses and immaturity and he patiently listens to our requests, fears, sorrows, and confusion. If we have any doubts about this, we need only read the Psalms.

So no matter what's on your heart, take it to the Lord, honestly, openly, and imperfectly. He's always present and waiting to listen and always ready to guide us into paths of wisdom.
