Are You Like a Dusty Mirror?

The link for this devotion has changed. It is: https://biblelovenotes.blogspot.com/2012/09/dusty-mirrors.html

God “shows much more of Himself to some people than to others—not because He has favourites, but because it is impossible for Him to show Himself to a man whose whole mind and character are in the wrong condition. Just as sunlight, though it has no favourites, cannot be reflected in a dusty mirror as clearly as a clean one.” C.S. Lewis

God is everywhere bringing light (1 John 1:5), but we must choose to live in His light:

"For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord." Ephesians 5:8-10

When we aren’t in right relationship with God we're like dusty mirrors.

When we "polish the mirrors of our lives" we shine like stars, reflecting God's light, bringing Him glory, and offering His light to our dark world  (Matthew 5:16; Philippians 2:14-16).

Let's polish and shine today!

  2. I really liked this image, Gail. Sin often clings to the mirror of our lives and keeps God's light from shining on us. Wonderful devotion in just a few words!
    Blessings!

  4. Thank you for this post and ALL your posts. I really enjoy them and the concept of one minute love notes! They truly are! God's Word is a mirror as James says in 1:22-25. We cannot simply look intently into it and then walk away and do nothing...we must do what it says or we are horribly deceived, hence the dusty mirror. This is a FABULOUS devotional and wonderful reminder ... don't simply listen to the Word, DO what it says. Jesus IS the Word (John 1:1) and when we don't listen to Him we aren't being obedient or loving Him. Ouch! Thanks again!

  6. Are you for real. The bible says when you ask for forgiveness Al your sins are forgiven so what more cleaning can one do? I've seen sinners and on believers get blessings like no other. Noone knows hiw God operates
I'm tired of bring confused and condemnation I've tried on my own to please God I failed .I'm letting go and he will look to me when he sees fit. 🙏🏼

    1. Hi Unknown,
Yes, I am for real. But more importantly, the words of God in this devotion are for real. And they tell us how God operates.

Nothing in this devotion says that you are not forgiven when you ask forgiveness.

This devotion encourages us to find out what pleases the Lord so we can make sure that our relationship with Him is not damaged by unrepentant sin and ungodly lifestyles. Because I love Jesus, I want very much to please Him. It doesn't bring me confusion and condemnation as you suggest. He's my Lord, my Savior, and my God. I want to please Him.

Do I perfectly please Him? No, but I am happy to have people teach me what pleases Him so I can keep drawing closer to Him.

“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete." John 15:9-11

When you say that you've tried on your own to please God and you've failed, so you will let him look for you when he sees fit, you need to realize that He is always seeking to bring us into fellowship with Him, and if we are not in that fellowship, then it is our problem not His.

Have you asked Him to be your Lord and Savior? Have you not only repented of your sins but told Him that you want him to transform your heart and mind? I encourage you to do these things.

And I have prayed for you that you will not only know about the Lord, but that you will know Him and how much He loves you and how much He can transform you. And that's for real!!
