One-Liners We Need to Quit Using: “We Can Share the Gospel Without Speaking a Word”

This is a common statement, but it's only half true. This devotion explains using multiple Scriptures.

First off: Our behavior should reflect our love for the Lord and His Word. Our attitudes and actions are definitely a witness to unbelievers (John 13:35).

But we can’t stop there. We must share words as well.

I’ve known unbelievers who were kind, gracious, and helpful. Their behavior reflected biblical principles, but they weren’t Christians.

If we treat people graciously without sharing our faith, we’re no different than these unbelievers.

This doesn’t mean we pounce on people and share the Roman Road the first time we meet them. God may direct us to share the full gospel with a coworker or neighbor, but most conversions start by planting seeds.

We can offer to pray for them when they share a difficulty, and we might explain how God helped us overcome a problem in our lives.

We can tell them about something that spoke to us in our morning quiet time or tell them how a Christian friend inspired us with his faith. At first, it may seem hard to scatter these seeds into the soil of normal conversations, but the more we do it, the more natural it becomes.

If we show our coworkers or neighbors Christian kindness but never tell them about our faith, we've disobeyed our Lord. Jesus told us to live His words, but He also told us to share them (Matthew 28:18-20Acts 1:8; Matthew 9:37-38; Romans 10:17; Colossians 4:2-6; 2 Timothy 4:2; 1 Peter 2:9).

Our present culture is trying to silence us, and we must not be silenced!

💙 I encourage you to memorize Romans 1:16For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.”

  1. Romans 10:14 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?
