3 Invalid Reasons People Criticize God's Word

These 3 excuses may be common, but they are inaccurate and misleading. This 1-minute devotion explains using Scripture.

Beware of these common excuses to disregard the relevance of God's Word:

1. It was written by imperfect men.

Yes and No.

God’s perfect Spirit told imperfect men what to write. They didn’t think it up on their own. God used the personality and writing styles of men to transmit exactly what He wanted us to know.

“All Scripture is God-breathed [given by divine inspiration].” 2 Timothy 3:16

“For no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.” 2 Peter 1:21

2. It was written too long ago to apply to us today.

No.

The Bible is an unfolding message written over the course of 1500 years. It moves from Old Covenant to New Covenant. Jesus fulfilled certain Old Testament commands and gave us a permanent, unchanging New Covenant faith (Matthew 5:17).

3. Everyone interprets it differently.

Yes and No.

People distort, misuse, and misunderstand Scripture, but the message of Scripture is clear to anyone who has God's Spirit.

“The Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” John 14:26

And God’s Spirit does not tell people contradictory things because “there is one body and one Spirit” (Ephesians 4:4).(1)

We can trust God's Word completely!
