Missing the Story Line
We wouldn’t read a few pages of a novel and assume that we understand the story line.
So why do we do this with Scripture?
We read a section of the Old Testament and decide that God’s punishments are harsh. We base our view of prayer, wealth, judging, or healing on one or two verses, ignoring other verses which add pertinent principles. We build a doctrine about positive thinking from a one-sentence proverb.
It’s not a big deal if we miss the plot of a novel.
But it’s an incredibly big deal if we miss important aspects of God’s story. After all, it’s our story, too.
That’s why God tells us:
"Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth." 2 Timothy 2:15
Let’s read and study God’s Word.
