Half-Truths Many Christians Believe - 1-4

There are some incredibly popular errors present in Christian teachings. Some are short statements like "all sins are the same in God's eyes,"(1) or "only God can judge."

Others are complex errors supporting health, wealth, and prosperity teachings.

But they all have this in common: they are created by misusing Scripture, taking Scripture out of context, adding or subtracting from Scripture. (See Pieces Parts Doesn't Work for Scripture).

Because they contain some truth it's harder to discern the errors. And they are repeated so often we just assume they must be true. (See 3 Ways to Protect Yourself from False Philosophies).

At first glance, you might agree with the half-truth statements below, but I encourage you to study each with an open mind and an open Bible

I will be sharing these half-truths every week, four at a time. Please read the linked devotions and the Scriptures they reference. Thanks!

(1) Addressed in a future post

Below are the first four half-truths in this series "Half-Truths Many Christians Believe":

Half-truth #1: Only God can judge.

While God is the final Judge of all men, He commands us to judge many things here on earth.

Half-truth #2: Judge sin, not sinners.

https://biblelovenotes.blogspot.com/2013/01/judge-sin-not-sinner.html
We can hate the sin and love the sinner, but we cannot judge the sin without judging the sinner. These links explain why:
It's Impossible to Judge the Sin Without Judging the Sinner
Peace is Not the Highest Good

Half-truth #3: You can do anything if you believe in yourself.

https://biblelovenotes.blogspot.com/2014/06/popular-lie.html
Scripture tells us that we can do anything God calls us to do, so we should believe in His abilities, not our own. These links explain why:
All Things in Christ's Strength
You Can't Do Anything You Set Your Mind to Do
A Guarded Heart

Half-truth #4: You can't love others if you don't love yourself.

https://biblelovenotes.blogspot.com/2014/02/LoveSelf-Lie.html
Biblical commands that tell us to love others are not in any way dependent on how we feel about ourselves. These links explain why:

Most Misused Scripture by Self-Esteem Advocates

These 4 Half-truths are misleading many Christians. Scripture corrects these misunderstandings.
