2 Steps to Sexual Sin

We often talk of "falling" into sexual sin, but it's actually a 2 step process and when we understand that, it helps us say "no" to sin. This 1-minute devotion explains. #BibleLoveNotes #Bible

People who sin sexually often say they were caught off guard and overwhelmed in a moment of passion.

But that’s never the case.

There are at least two steps:

Step 1. Immoral desire:
Extramarital or premarital sex always begins in the mind with lustful thoughts. Thoughts can be sinful even if they are never acted upon (Matthew 5:28).(1) But allowing lustful thoughts very often leads to lustful behavior.

“For out of the heart come evil thoughts--murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander.” Matthew 15:19

"Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin….” James 1:15

Step 2. Refusing God’s "exit plan":
God promises to give us a way out of any temptation (1 Corinthians 10:13). But we must take it.

Sexual sin isn’t an overpowering passion, an accident, or a mistake. It’s a premeditated, sinful choice. Don't make it!

  1. I was told once to avoid sexual sin, do not touch, or kiss in a way that requires a response. Such as, a light kiss on the cheek, does not require a response. A side hug, not a full frontal hug, locking 2 fingers together rather than arms over shoulders while walking together. See a touch that requires no response. Because one response leads to another and another. Then you've got sexual sin.

  2. Sexual sin starts in the heart- a heart that is not close to God and not willing to heed the warnings that the Holy spirit gives. If a married person is involved they are willing to betray and devastate their partner for thier own selfish desires.
