Their Love Destroyed His Hatred

At 19, Feng joined the Boxer Revolution to kill foreigners in his Chinese homeland. Filled with hatred, he helped massacre Christian missionaries, their children, and their Chinese converts. 

But two particular incidents haunted him. 

In one city, a woman named Miss Morrell stood in front of her missionary compound and asked if she could give her life to spare the others. Although the Boxers murdered them all, Feng was shocked by Morrell's sacrificial love. 

In another incident, Feng was touched and perplexed when a missionary father gently and calmly comforted his son as they were burned alive. 

Feng couldn't rest until he learned more about the God who inspired such peace and love in His followers, and Feng ended up giving his life to Christ. 

Few of us will be asked to make the sacrifices of Miss Morrell and this unnamed father, but they should inspire us (Hebrews 12:1) and make us ask "What might God be asking me to sacrifice for the Gospel?"

Are we willing to be "living sacrifices" for our Lord? (Romans 12:1).
Are we willing to adjust our goals, our purposes, our budget, and our schedule to fulfill God's purposes for our lives? (Ephesians 2:10). 

If our faith costs us nothing, if we aren't deliberately sacrificing our sinful desires, then we haven't understood the price Christ paid for our sins (1 Corinthians 6:20).

I am inspired and motivated by these examples who Feng encountered, and I hope you are too.
