Lifestyle Discipleship

There is a type of discipleship that may be more useful and effective than any other, and it's also the most natural. This 1-minute devotion explains

Many years ago, a young woman raised in a dysfunctional family asked if she could occasionally "hang out" in our home. She wanted to experience a "normal" Christian family.

This is an example of what I call "lifestyle discipling." In many ways, we are always doing this type of discipling, whether we realize it or not. Our lifestyle witnesses to people, for good or for bad.

Tabitha (Acts 9:36-42) was obviously a good lifestyle discipler. The people who attended her funeral and resurrection confirm it.

If you need to be discipled, find a godly Christian role model or godly family and invite them to do things with you. Or, if you have walked faithfully with the Lord for some years, invite newer Christians to "hang out" with you.

Lifestyle discipleship improves with forethought:
Pray beforehand that God will use your time for His purposes.
Share naturally and honestly as subjects arise.

Lifestyle discipleship happens naturally, but being deliberate about it makes it even more effective.

"Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ." Philippians 1:27

"And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." Colossians 3:17

  1. Gail, this is a good reminder that we are always in the act of discipling others. It's some thing we might not really stop to think about in the busyness of our day. Have a great week.
