In 1916, a British Army Chaplain, saw a grave with a rough marker saying “An Unknown British Soldier.” He proposed a national monument which the British government erected, and scores of other countries (including the U.S.) followed suit.
Many heroic acts are never recognized.
Similarly, many martyred for Christ are never honored because their deaths are secret, illegal, or politically censored.
In a much smaller sense, we all experience lack of recognition at times when we do something good.
Many generous acts and daily sacrifices are ignored or taken for granted. And sometimes people are actually slandered and maligned for doing what's right.
What a comfort and joy it is to know that God will one day "bring to light what is hidden in darkness" so that "each will receive his praise from God" (1 Corinthians 4:5).
There are no unknown soldiers to God.
America's Tomb to the Unknown Soldier has this inscription: "Here rests in honored glory an American Soldier known but to God."

Hi Gail, when I did something for someone and they asked what they could do in return, I told them, supper, make supper! But then i realized that I then had received my reward and since then when I do something, I do it as unto the Lord, because my reward is in heaven so I don't feel disappointed (most times, lol) when I don't get any recognition. I want God's reward, not supper, much as I hate, ummm, dislike, cooking :)

ReplyDeleteThis is a great reminder, Gail. I needed to read these words and soak them into my soul, since I've recently experienced a taste of persecution. Nothing that even comes close to what you've mentioned here, but it hurts nonetheless. And it's easy to feel burdened when you don't feel like others get how hurtful they've been, but God sees and that's all that should and does matter. :)
