Unashamed of God's Word

Now, more than ever, Christians are being called to take a stand for Christ and it begins with deciding if we want to be popular or faithful. This 1-minute devotion explains.

Several months ago, on BLN Facebook page I asked for prayer for our country regarding the gay marriage decision. A professing Christian left a comment calling me an unloving bigot, telling me to stick to the gospel.

Dear Christians, now more than ever before, we must know what the Bible teaches. And we must realize it will never be popular.

"If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you." John 15:19

We have a choice: We can study God's truth and speak up for it in love, or we can become people of whom Christ is ashamed (Joshua 24:14-15Luke 9:26).

Read what the Bible says about homosexuality, and trust that God knows what is best for His creation. Everything that God commands is motivated by love for us.
1 Corinthians 6:9-11
Romans 1:26-28
Jude 1:7
Mark 10:6-9
1 Timothy 1:10-11

I highly recommend the Bite Size Bible Study What the Bible Teaches about Homosexuality because it equips you with Scripture passages critical to this subject.

In addition, I recommend the Bite Size Study The Continuing Homosexual Debate which includes common arguments made against the Bible's teachings on Homosexuality. Two of the five questions answered in this study:  1. God says homosexuality is wrong, but He also says eating shrimp is wrong (Leviticus 11:9-12). 2: Homosexuality is the same as any other sin. If you refuse to marry homosexuals in your church, you should refuse to marry gossips.

  1. Hi Gail, this is getting to be a seriously dodgy subject out there in Christian Land sadly. It really is very simple and your chosen scriptures point that out. I think the time to decide whom we will serve is becoming very relevant for us as Christians. I hope as it hots up and gets tougher, we all stick together more instead of stab each other in the back verbally! Great post Gail
    God bless

    1. Thanks, Tracy. I really value your blog and your insights.

You are so right about us being at a point in history where we are being forced to choose between Biblical values and popular values. We need to know God's Word now more than ever.
      God bless you,
      Gail

  2. Thank you for standing for the truth, Gail. The Bible is very clear. We are called to love our neighbor, not condone sin. There is a difference.

  3. This is the symptom of less people reading their bibles. Truth is, the law of the land must be abided, BUT we as Christians decide to live differently. In America we've had our beliefs tightly woven in with the law. Those things are changing and it is now the time we will see the true nature of men.

  4. A new word I learned from the Hebrew is the ancient Hebrew battle cry, "rak chazak" ( רק חזק - pronounced "rock-a-zock," I believe). It means "just be strong." I think this is what Christians need to remember when the world tries to redefine what the Lord has said. Just be strong. Thank you for standing for truth, Gail. That takes courage in this generation.

  5. Jesus taught us to love our neighbors as ourselves. He also taught us to hate sin. God has been speaking to me a lot lately about loving the person, non-judgmentally, but hating their sinful behavior. This sounds impossible, but through Christ it is not. Jesus loved people, who were sinning, even prostitutes! We are all sinners, broken. Yet, God loves us all. Sin is sin, God showed us mercy and grace by loving while were yet sinners. We must love everyone regardless of their past or current sins. None of are perfect.

  6. Jesus never said "love the sinner, hate the sin" God is not speaking to you unless you read it in His word.

    1. Yes, Bill, you're right.

while there are some elements of truth in the statement "love the sinner, hate the sin," it is not a Scripture. And some people think that loving the sinner means being quiet about their sins or not judging their sins, and that is definitely against the teaching of Scripture which tells us it's loving to warn people of sin because their very lives are at stake.
