My friend Gillian talked about having a challenging year, and she cheered me with her humor and her wisdom.
She’s one of my friends I’ve never met, a sister in Christ and longtime reader of Bible Love Notes from the UK.
She said that despite her difficulties, “I have determined that God wants to build resilience in me, and I'm going to sing in the lion’s den. The devil can stroll on, as we say in Blighty.”
I love that!
If we read the story of Daniel in the lion’s den, it doesn’t explicitly say that he sang. But I imagine he prayed long and hard, asking God for courage when he heard the snarling lions before him in the dark cave. And I imagine he sang for joy the next morning when the cave was opened and he explained what had happened: “My God sent his angel, and he shut the mouths of the lions. They have not hurt me.”
I encourage you to read Daniel 6 today. It's such a blessing!
Of course, Daniel spent the whole night with the ever-present threat watching him from across the cave. God doesn’t promise we won’t encounter troubles when we choose to do His will. But, like Daniel, we can remember God’s faithfulness and seek His courage.
If you’re sitting in a lion’s den right now, I encourage you to remember God’s faithfulness and sing His praises like my friend Gillian. And the devil can stroll on by as they say in Blighty.
