Easter Decorations that Reflect the Meaning of the Holiday

Easter or Resurrection Sunday - which ever you prefer -- is one of the most important celebrations of our faith. When Christ rose from the dead, He conquered death and paid for our sins:

"Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit." Romans 8:1-4

While eggs can symbolize the coming of new life, most popular decorations at Eastertime, such as bunnies and baskets, have nothing to do with Christ's Resurrection.

So let's look at some ideas for adding meaning to our Easter Decor.

A mantle decoration: Angels, bright colored ribbon and eggs symbolizing new life.

There is also a cross made of nails symbolizing Christ's death and the nails driven into his hands and feet....for you and me.

Spring flowers and eggs can symbolize the new life Christ gives to us, and if you have children, I encourage you to emphasize these points.

Each year I put out this little frame which says, "Our Lord was sold for 30 pieces of silver, the price of a slave. He purchased us with his precious blood." The little leather bag contains 30 silver-colored coins.

To read more about the meaning of 30 pieces of silver, see What is the Significance of 30 Pieces of Silver?

This wonderful clay cross from Peru, is a gift from our mission team when my husband and I led a mission trip to Peru. I think it reflects two things: 1. how we share in Christ's suffering by taking up our cross and following Him. 2. how Christ's cross carries all of us to salvation.

The cross is a symbol of cruel suffering that Christ went through to save us from our sins. See 10 Important Truths about the Cross.

Finally, I display these 3 nails which are the approximate size of those used for a crucifixion, but the crucifixion nails would have been much rougher. Christ suffered incredible pain...

I'd love to hear your ideas for highlighting Christ in your Easter decorations. Please leave them in a comment below.
