Romans 12:3 - A Reasonable View of Ourselves

This short verse is packed with a powerful truth about the basis for a biblical self-esteem.

Romans 12 is a chapter full of wonderful truths. For example, verse 3

“For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.”

Modern self-esteem teachings encourage us to think highly of ourselves and speak highly of ourselves. But God consistently values humility (Proverbs 27:2).

Our value isn’t based on appearance, wealth, position, or popularity. Nor is it based on our view of ourselves.

It’s based on correctly understanding our Lord and investing our God-given skills in kingdom purposes – “in accordance with the faith” God had given us (Matthew 25:14-30).

This is what the LORD says: 'Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,' declares the LORD.Jeremiah 9:23-24
