Years ago, when I edited submissions for a devotional blog, I found that some writers followed submission guidelines and accepted edits and suggestions humbly. But there were always a few exceptions.
For example, one writer told me that God had given him the devotion he’d written, so he wouldn’t abide by the word count nor would he accept edits.(1)
I love how Scripture is so applicable to life:
"To learn, you must love discipline; it is stupid to hate correction." Proverbs 12:1
It’s no coincidence that those who refused correction were typically the mediocre writers. The same is true for Christians. Those who refuse correction remain shallow and immature:
"Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still; teach the righteous and they will add to their learning." Proverbs 9:9
We’d rather have approval or flattery, but genuine friends keep us accountable:
"Better is open rebuke than hidden love. Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses." Proverbs 27:5-6
Wise correction can change our lives:
"Whoever heeds life-giving correction will be at home among the wise." Proverbs 15:31

Proverbs 9:8: "Don't bother correcting mockers; they will only hate you. But correct the wise, and they will love you."
Proverbs 15:5: "Only a fool despises a parent's discipline; whoever learns from correction is wise."
Proverbs 25:12: "To one who listens, valid criticism is like a gold earring or other gold jewelry."
